"Scotland Manufacturing strives to maintain the highest environmental standards. We continually investigate and try new chemical processes to determine the most environmentally friendly products for our facility - this includes everything from drawing compounds to floor cleaners. Recently, we implemented a new set of chemicals that eliminates many problem chemicals and reduces the remaining waste products to a minimum level. We are always seeking cleaner and friendlier processes and will continue to do so into the future."

Commitment to Green

Scotland Manufacturing is very proactive in developing and adhering to strict environmental guidelines in our manufacturing processes. We have adopted environmentally friendly processes throughout our facility and our employees follow these practices in their daily operations.

All chemicals in our manufacturing plant are environmentally friendly formulations. The washer chemicals, which flow into the wastewater stream from our plant, are free from heavy metals and phosphates. Used oil and lubricants, as well as cardboard, wood, paper and work gloves from the factory floor, are all recycled. Further, we are committed to meeting all EPA guidelines in all of our manufacturing processes.

Environmental Commitment

Scotland Manufacturing is very proactive in developing and adhering to strict environmental guidelines in its manufacturing practices. We have adopted environmentally friendly processes throughout our facility and our employees follow these practices in their daily operations.

To reinforce our commitment to green practices, both for our own facility and for our customers' needs, we have replaced our chemicals with environmentally friendly formulations. We eliminated several toxic heavy metals and revamped numerous processes that could cause potential harm to the environment.

Environmentally polluting phosphates and chemicals such as molybdenum are no longer in our coatings, cleaners and rust preventive processes. The latest test results show that we are in complete compliance with federal regulations, meeting all standards and even going beyond the requirements in some circumstances.

Scotland Manufacturing now offers its customers not only lower cost raw materials, including lower cost cold-rolled steel, but also products that are environmentally friendly and rust-proof. Our new non-polluting chemicals are so successful that we can provide a cold-rolled steel product with the equivalent shelf life of a product made with tin plated steel.

"This was a total team effort at Scotland Manufacturing," said Michael Bartell, Production Manager. "We gathered together a team of employees to investigate different environmentally friendly chemicals, and we chose a few that we thought would be good for us." The team then ran trial tests and worked with an independent lab, a supplier and a customer to help select the right chemical for Scotland Manufacturing's processes.

"It was a cross-functional team," said Jerry Chavis, Continuous Improvement Technician. "Our goal was to surpass over 100 hours in a humidity chamber. We ran our cans to failure and they lasted over 500 hours. This is a strong indication of the life of the product."

"We will continue to look for ways to make our processes environmentally friendly and to support our customers with the latest green technology," commented Dan Cockerill, Manager of Manufacturing Engineering.
